The steel grade of the drill pipe is from E75 to S135 as per API. The drill pipe includes the serious of drill pipe whose OD is from 2 3/8�to 5 1/2� the double-circular bead joint drill pipe with high torsion-resistance performance and the BNKC95S drill pipe with special steel grade that used in sulfur-containing wells. It is mainly used in the construction of bore, horizontal well and large displacement wells during the exploration and development of wells.
The drill pipe, which is steel pipe with thread on the tail, is used to connect the surface equipment of the drill rig with the drill grinding equipment or bottom hole device on the bottom of the well. The usage of the drill pipe is to transport the drilling mud to the drill bit and increase, decrease or rotate the bottom hole device with the drill bit. The drill pipe must have the ability to bear great pressure, warping, bend and vibration. During the exploration and extraction, the drill pipe can be used many times.
The original pipe and raw steel pipe are made into drill pipe after many times of processing. Firstly, according to the processing of thickening the wall, the surface of the original pipe could bend to inside to thicken the pipe wall. Next step is to do the thread machining and plate the copper to increase the strength. Then weld the joint of the steel pipe. After that, the pipe would go through the welding heat treatment and welding terminal treatment to eliminate the residual pressure of welding. Before painting and package of the finished drill pipe, there should be some tests for the finished pipe, including hardness test, pressure test and non-destructive test.
Generally speaking, the length of drill pipe is about 9 meters.
